How Did the Musical Come About?

Brooke and Amanda met freshman year at an Atlanta-area performing arts high school (yep, that’s us our Senior Year!). When we first started writing this musical, our goal was simple: create something we could perform in—because let’s face it, there just aren’t enough great roles for women our age. But the moment we started, we realized this story wasn’t just about us. It had to be bigger. It had to tackle the generational tug-of-war we’re all living through, the paradox of cancel culture, the identity crisis so many are facing, and the absolute circus of modern life.

At its heart, this show is about what happens when different perspectives collide, when nostalgia meets progress, and when the urge to cancel each other is replaced by the messy, beautiful, ridiculous attempt to understand one another. And if we can do all that while belting out a showstopper? Even better.

Meet the CHARACTERS

ANGELA, She’s pragmatic, domineering, and deeply invested in her son Harlan's future.

HARLAN, A student at Verity High. He’s creative, sensitive, and introspective. He is grappling with the weight of his mother Angela’s expectations of him and his future.

SUTTON, She’s a seasoned Broadway actress, ambitious, self-centered and slightly narcissistic.

ALEXA, A student at Verity High. Sutton’s daughter. Alexa is resilient and independent but has lived her life in her mother’s shadow.

COACH/ADAM, A teacher at the school. Sutton’s brother and Dylan’s father. He’s a supportive and compassionate father and teacher and a voice of reason amongst the chaos.

DYLAN, Alumni of Verity High. Coach is their father. They’re the director of the talent show, passionate and committed but grappling with finding their own voice and authority.

LUIS, He’s creative, nurturing, playful, and paternal. A big kid. He brings the party and uses his artistic abilities to bring everyone joy.

VERNA, She’s the pianist. She’s pragmatic, cynical, and would rather be gambling in Atlantic City.

YOUNG VERNA, She’s precocious, cynical, and would rather be gambling. A carbon copy of Verna.
